What are the requirements for earning the Seal of Biliteracy?
- Complete all high-school graduation requirements.
- Complete all semesters of English with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Earn a score of proficient or higher in English on the California Standards Test.
- Complete an application (December).
- Pass an oral-language proficiency assessment (May).
- Demonstrate proficiency in one or more languages other than English by fulfilling one of the options listed below.
What are the language-proficiency options?
- Advanced Placement Exam with a score of 3 or above
- International Baccalaureate Exam with a score of 4 or above
- SAT II Foreign Language Exam with a score of 600 or above
- Foreign government or Native American tribe language exam with a passing score
- Four years of language classes in target language with at least a 3.0 GPA
- District-established exam that meets the rigor of a four-year course of study
